Temporary Section Modality Changes

Given the post-Covid learning environment, faculty and students have demonstrated the ability to be flexible with modalities in the face of short-term illness/quarantine or other interruptions to face-to-face instruction, including the ISD holiday closures.

With this in mind, LAHC offers faculty the option to shift their face-to-face instruction to virtual synchronous or asynchronous instruction for short periods of time – up to two class periods – with Department Chair approval. Instructors who would otherwise have to cancel face-to-face classes can avoid asking for a substitute and can adapt their curriculum to virtual instruction. Faculty may direct students to access technology either off campus or at ACC facilities.

Longer or more frequent modality changes must be approved by the Department Chair and Dean. Department Chairs will document and report on temporary modality change approvals each semester.

Dual Enrollment

Changing in the modality of delivery for dual enrollment sections (Dual Credit or ECHS) should be the option of last resort. When unavoidable, DCs will coordinate with HS Relations, LAHC Dual Credit Liaisons, or HS administrators to ensure that we avoid problems with supervision or transportation of HS students.

For temporary ISD school closures, dual enrollment faculty may switch to asynchronous instruction.
