Adjunct Representation
According to AR 4.06.003, adjunct faculty are represented in department governance processes and college-wide decision-making bodies. By AR, adjuncts who teach in a discipline are eligible to serve as voting members of the department’s governance committee. Each department must allocate a number of adjunct faculty seats on the governance committee equal to or greater than the number of full-time faculty in the department. Adjunct faculty on the department governance committee have full voting rights.
The process of selection of adjunct representatives is established in AR 4.06.003. Briefly, each year, adjuncts volunteer no later than the third week in March, and if there are more volunteers than available seats, an election is held; otherwise, the volunteers are appointed to the governance committee.
The numbers in parentheses next to the department name below shows the number of adjunct representatives appointed/number of available seats. For instance, 3/3 means that there are three adjuncts appointed to 3 available seats.
Adjunct representatives for the current year are listed below, by department.
The available seats total is based on the current number of FT faculty in each department/discipline, which is the minimum number of seats a department must make available to adjunct faculty. You will see that there are some departments in which there are empty seats; this is because adjuncts did not volunteer. Departments may increase the number of seats beyond the minimum, so if you see a number like 12/7, this means the department has 12 appointed representatives even though the minimum number of seats is 7.
COVID-19 Note: Because of the need to manage the pandemic crisis in the spring, some departments were not able to solicit volunteers, so volunteers for the current academic year (2020-21) were accepted in the fall. Note that, per AR 4.06.003, we will appoint a new slate of adjunct representatives for 2021-22 in March.
